Connecticut Accessory dwellings (Public Act 21-29): what it allows on a lot
Accessory dwellings (Public Act 21-29) is Connecticut law, and the official source is at cga.ct.gov.
Towns had to allow one accessory dwelling as of right on each lot with a single family home unless they opted out by a two thirds vote before January 1, 2023; many did. Ask the town whether it opted out. HB 5507 (2026) to remove the opt out was in committee.
Whether it applies to one lot turns on where the lot is and what it is zoned; the city, county or state office named in the law decides. Mapped areas are approximate. This is a plain reading of public law with its source, not legal advice.
